Election Essentials (English)
The AMM represents the leading association of mid-level academic staff (“Mittelbau”) at the Medical University of Vienna.
Every three years, elections are held for several key university committees as defined by Austrian university law (as was the case on June 12, 13, and 16, 2025).
In addition, elections for the Works Council (Betriebsrat) are held every five years, in accordance with Section 61 of the Austrian Arbeitsverfassungsgesetz (Labour Constitution Act). This ensures the regular democratic renewal of employee representation.
All academic employees—including externally funded diploma and doctoral candidates—who hold an employment contract as of 22 October 2025 are eligible to vote.
Even though we cannot present all our areas of activity and strategic plans on this single, purpose-driven page, we hope the following overview will give you a basic idea of what we are working on. Among many other things, we aim to improve and make the regulations governing dissertations, habilitations, and academic career advancement fairer and more transparent.
Our current focus includes:
• Incentives for the successful acquisition of third-party funding
• Reliable and scheduled research days and teaching times
• Institutional funding of mandatory international mobility periods required by career models (under § 11b AVRAG)
• Strengthening a genuine culture of recognition, transparent evaluation, and comprehensible career pathways
• Supporting work–family balance through improved childcare, flexible working arrangements, and parental leave options
• Enhanced support for teaching and research through expanded grant and publication services
We invite you to support us in the elections on November 19 and 20, and encourage you to contact us at any time with questions or for further information.
